MILITARY PROGRAM
WHAT IS MILITARY SCHOOL EXACTLY? IT IS NOT WHAT MOST THINK.
We are NOT a reform school. Camden Military Academy is a college preparatory school for young men. We are in the business of offering young men a chance to succeed in the classroom and in life. Our typical cadet is a student who has not been working up to his potential academically. Do the following describe your son? Underachiever, poor time manager, and lacking in self confidence? Missed assignments, not turning in homework, and teenage “laziness” are often mentioned terms in initial contact with parents and families. Also, some students may have mild learning challenges (ADD, ADHD, etc…) that a smaller classroom environment or more individual attention may be of benefit.
A boarding school must provide more than just a quality education. Camden Military offers a unique blend of a high quality education and military principles. Hence, Camden Military offers a young man structure, organization and self discipline as well as a strong academic base.
We are NOT a boot camp. However, physical fitness is important. Camden has mandatory morning PT (Physical Training) and/or drill. Sports are also a large part of Camden Military Academy. We have 13 different interscholastic sports and also include intramural activities.
In sum, Camden will strive to produce a well-rounded young man that can handle himself confidently, self-assuredly, and respectfully in any social setting. Camden Military invites you to see if our military school is what you need…you will NOT be disappointed!
The military program at Camden Military Academy provides one of the most beneficial aspects of campus life.
The student body is organized into a Corps of Cadets consisting of five companies. Cadets live in their company area within the dormitories. Two TAC officers are assigned to each company and closely supervise the activities and lives of the cadets within his company. TAC officers monitor each cadet’s academic progress, conduct, and overall development and is readily available to cadets seeking advice or counsel.
Military training is valuable because it instills neatness, precision, promptness and self-control. It teaches a young man to take pride in his country. He learns to take orders before he is given the authority to give orders. Through this process, a cadet learns that he is responsible to his fellow students for his actions. As a cadet develops, he is given more responsibility. As part of the military program, the Academy requires that all high school cadets participate in the JROTC program and attend classes in leadership development. Camden Military Academy is designated as a Military Institute (MI) Junior Army Reserve Officers Training Corps (JROTC) School and has consistently been rated as an Honor Unit with Distinction by the Department of the Army. The JROTC program requires students to participate in drill and ceremonies, and to attend a leadership development class. Seventh and eighth grade students, although not part of the JROTC program, are required to participate in all drill and ceremonies. The Cadet Challenge Program, the varsity rifle team, and the precision drill team are also supervised by the Military Department. Military training is unquestionably one of the great assets of Camden Military Academy.
